The Bawdy Balladeers

Once upon a time I was part of a successful A Capella group called The Bawdy Balladeers. We had two recordings. I cried when I saw this on ebay. The link will only be good for two more days so I'll summarize. My best work is currently worth $4.25.

Divided by three musicians.

I am entered in the Ravelry Ravelympics '08. The rules are simple.

  • Choose an event/project to be cast on during the Olympics opening ceremonies 8/8/08
  • It should be a challenge for you to complete in 17 days, not "just another scarf"
  • Olympic trials and training may be done such as swatching
  • Finish before the flame is extinguished 8/24/08

My event is WIP Wrestling and I am on Team BOB. I am psyched because I am about to wrestle my toughest opponent. The mate to an armwarmer I made about a year ago. It’s cotton, it’s lace, and I altered the pattern to make it bigger to fit my queen size arms.

I didn’t write it any of that down.

Actually, it ended up going for $31.75, slightly more than *twice* the original price! *G* Still one of my favorite albums ever.

Heeey! Thanks for letting me know. They were originally $16 though, we broke that $15 price used by groups for such a very long time. Some called us greedy. Some called us crazy. Some called us able to pay our taxes.

I'll be visiting Fair at least once this year. Say hi if you see me, but be sure to remind me of this connection between us :-)

My friend Liz pointed me your way since I recently went nuts trying to find a copy of that album. Luckily Liz is lending me her cd. Why? there's an SCA (those medieval folks) event in September themed Persephone's Story. "Demeter's Daughter" woke me up in the middle of the night and I was off looking! Hopefully, I'll get to sing it and not disgrace myself too badly at the Bardic that night. It won't be as gorgeous a rendition as yours, but yours is the inspiration for even trying it.

My heart thanks you!

I wish I had known about the auction in time to bid on it... I used to have that one, mailed to me by a friend. It was sadly lost in a move. I don't suppose you'll ever offer them as downloads?

CD Baby or Amazon would be the places... you could do tiny volume and still catch some bucks occasionally. Love ya, would buy ALL the CDs again.

I am in the SCA in Sydney Australia. Yes your music has traveled this far and am trying to find a copy of your albums. I know of a few people who are also looking for them.
I have a friend who owns a copy and it is so badly worn out 70% of the song are drowned out by other noise

Didn't realize I missed a few responses here and I apologize for that. Four days ago I got recognized as being Bliss while getting a medical procedure (of all things!) and now a note from Austrailia. It's been a nostalgic week :-)

bronx-baroness - I hope your event went well. It's nice to know the song is still being sung. You might want to let the composer know at http://www.annelister.com/ Use the whole thing, it will get the right website in England.

michelf - Sorry you lost your copy and I hope you didn't loose all your music! There are no plans for downloads. If your friend still has her copy, she has our permission to make you a copy :-)

Heather - I know about CD Baby, my former partner from Full Measure (the group after The Bawdy Balladeers) used them for her solo. Thanks for thinking of us

Anonymous (in Australia) - I'm so pleased to hear from you and so distressed that the music is in such poor condition. I'm guessing it is a cassette? The SCA and Renaissance Faires have been the biggest thing keeping these albums from extinction. I forget the name of the newsletter for the SCA, but perhaps an ad might help you find someone with a copy. I hope so. They occasionally come up on ebay, though I'm not sure about access to in Australia. Good luck!

I still have cassette copies of both albums that play clearly. I guess I need to digitize them ASAP - I would hate to lose this music! (the Balladeers were always my favorite part of the Renaissance Faire).

I digitized my CD "For Your Pleasure" back in the 90's so I would never lose it. My favorite memory from back then was when you all where performing "roll your leg over" and scarlet accidently kick a mug on the stage and then put a bag on her head and sat on the edge of the stage. I miss those days.

if there is ever a way to get a copy of any of the albums from the Bawdy balladeers I would be eternally grateful. My cassette tape broke many years ago and I have never been able to replace it.
